About Me

My photo
Last year I turned the big 3.0 and got married - I thought that was my milestone year. As it turns out, 2009 quickly overshadowed 2008 when my husband and I found out we were pregnant. I'm going to be experiencing everything for the first time as a woman and an expectant mother which is why I'm calling this my year of firsts. I'm senior editor for Marie Claire South Africa.

Summer vacation

I don't know about you but I'm already thinking about holidays - I'm especially looking forward to the April holidays - thanks to the president for declaring April 22 a public holiday! I just wish I had enough leave days to take off the entire month and call it the end of the year. It's not that I'm exhausted, but strangely I'm feeling mighty restless and all I want to do is hop onto a plane and see more of the world! Now!

The closest I could come to planning a trip though is making arrangements for the festive season. Yes I know I'm an eager beaver... but all the best places get snatched up early. I've had my eye on this lovely place called The Sugar Shack in Paternoster but the place is booked a year in advance. who can plan a whole year in advance? This is what I'm picturing for toasting the end of the year and bringing in the new. Friends and family (and little baby girl in tow), great music, chilling sessions and long walks on the beach, sundowners, seafood feasts... I can smell the sea already and my mind's eye wanders to an image of me reclining on those white beach chairs gazing out at the sunset, sand between the toes, good book in hand, baby sleeping.

The image of the whitewashed cottages was taken by Alica Buckley for the NYTimes http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/03/30/travel/30surfacing.html
