About Me

My photo
Last year I turned the big 3.0 and got married - I thought that was my milestone year. As it turns out, 2009 quickly overshadowed 2008 when my husband and I found out we were pregnant. I'm going to be experiencing everything for the first time as a woman and an expectant mother which is why I'm calling this my year of firsts. I'm senior editor for Marie Claire South Africa.

Nia

Two weeks ago I started Nia classes. They're basically a low-impact dance class incorporating karate, t'ai chi and tae kwon do moves among others... it' a small class of about 10 people - twice a week. Anymore than that and we'd be crashing into each other as there's lots of arm flinging, air punching, kicking and jumping. And of course, many with absolutely no co-ordination. I'm one to speak though. As much as I thought I had an innate rhythm, some of the moves throw me for a loop!

It's fun though - and unlike gym or any other class I've ever taken up I don't dread the afternoon, watching the clock tick closer to working out time... trying to think of an elaborate and legitimate excuse not to go.

Though it's certainly not going to turn my body into a lean, mean, pregnant machine, after each class I feel exhilarated, energised much less guilty about that birthday cake I had in the office that afternoon...
