About Me

My photo
Last year I turned the big 3.0 and got married - I thought that was my milestone year. As it turns out, 2009 quickly overshadowed 2008 when my husband and I found out we were pregnant. I'm going to be experiencing everything for the first time as a woman and an expectant mother which is why I'm calling this my year of firsts. I'm senior editor for Marie Claire South Africa.

Baby girl kicks

It felt like a light finger tap reverberating inside my tummy... at first I couldn't quite place it... and then I knew it was baby's first kick. Well, more like the first time I felt baby kick. I rushed to the study where Hein was working to tell him the news and try to describe to him what it felt like. I tapped a pinky finger lightly on his arm and asked him if he could imagine that felt like an echo. I know. Difficult to imagine but he knew what I meant. What a beautiful feeling to experience at 9pm on a Sunday evening.
I can't wait to feel more of her.

On Saturday we all went to the Parkhurst Festival which was a bit lacklustre I'm afraid. We were booked in at Bottega restaurant because the food there is usually so good but sadly, the restaurant couldn't cope with our table of 18, nevermind the volumes of people they had accepted reservations from. Anyway, a PR acquaintance had the cheek to comment disapprovingly on the glass of wine of chilled Fat Bastard chardonnay I was enjoying. As if I would ever endanger my own child! As if she's ever been pregnant! Whether I have one or two glasses, or dance until 3am is none of her concern. Really pissed me off!

But baby girl's aunt made it all go away by giving me her first prized possession - a tiny, dainty, jewel-encrusted collector's powder mirror from Estee Lauder. I'll keep it somewhere safe for her 13th birthday.
Thanks Auntie Zanele!
