Every parent I think wants to buy their LO (little one) everything of the best and latest and I've often wondered whether we're completely wasting money - as Hein pointed out about the wooden cot - or it's about personal preferences. So I rounded up all the advice from moms about what not to buy according to their experiences. I'm still getting the moses basket for R950 from
www.weavingdreams.co.za though... see image. I like the actual basket but the linen wasn't my style so going to look around for some soft linen.
WHAT NOT TO BUY
* baby-perfumed products
* newborn clothes - buy from 3 months up
* two-piece newborn suits
* powder
* bottle warmer
* more than six bottles
* baby monitor
* compactum - normal chest of drawers will do
* breastfeeding cushion
* baby bath - I still want one
* rocking chair
hahahaha, f that, I want a rocking chair!
ReplyDeletei agree totally
ReplyDelete1. baby perfumed products - buy adult aveeno stuff
2. newborn clothes....totally...but you can't stop all the nice ones you'll get at a baby shower...people can't help buying those teeny weeny outfits.
3. two piece anything is a pain. onsies rule!
4. powder, without talc, is good to have when your baby is on an antibiotic and gets diarreah...that's about it.
5. bottle warmer - yeah don't get your baby hooked on warm milk...you'll pay later on for it.
6. i had like 12 bottles...way too many
7. baby monitor - agree
8. any drawer will do...what the heck is a compactum?
9. i have to disagree on the breastfeeding cushion. now, i didn't use it for breastfeeding, but if you have a colicky baby....holy cow...they things help you hold your baby up when your half asleep at 3:30am in the rocking chair.
10. baby bath. no...don't even waste your time on a baby bath.
11. you don't HAVE to buy a rocking chair...many woman have survived without...but i would die if i didn't have mine. it has saved me, many a night.
great post!
Nam' Heartwarmer! If I can find a cheap one I'll buy it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! So I'm on the right track then Lisa? Yay!
ReplyDelete* I agree - breastfeeding cushion might come in handy... it can't be that pricey. And maybe I can use it as a back support later when baby has outgrown it.
* Jury is still out on the rocking chair.
* BUT I WANT A BABY BATH! In fact I've already decided which one I'm going to get - all the way from the UK! Check out my next post!
