About Me

My photo
Last year I turned the big 3.0 and got married - I thought that was my milestone year. As it turns out, 2009 quickly overshadowed 2008 when my husband and I found out we were pregnant. I'm going to be experiencing everything for the first time as a woman and an expectant mother which is why I'm calling this my year of firsts. I'm senior editor for Marie Claire South Africa.

On baby watch

Today was without doubt the coldest morning I have experienced in a long while. And I had to be up early to get to my morning appointment with Xoli. The night before was quite unpleasant - getting up four times in a night in minus degree temperatures, with a house reeking of paint and dust hanging around on the floors is not fun. And then once again, in the wee hours, I ran out of sleep, blinking into the darkness, reluctant to do anything or think of anything expect will myself back to sleep. This has been happening on and off for the past three weeks. I wonder if it's the body's way of preparing me for those three-hourly feeds.

So apparently baby is not going to be big at all *phew* according to Xoli's skilled searching hands and after a urine check, it looks like baby might be arriving sooner than later. Xoli thinks it might happen by the end of next week (at least the paint in the nursery and bathroom will have dried and aired) so I've been advised to have mine and baby's hospital bags packed. Baby's bag is good to go; mine is missing a crop tops of sorts and a change of clothing for when I leave the hospital. Oh! And a maternity bra that actually fits! Why they sell them in S, M, L and XL is beyond me!
